Bob Lingard

Professor Bob Lingard holds the Andrew Bell Chair of Education at the University of Edinburgh. Bob has previously been professor at the University of Sheffield and the University of Queensland , Australia , where he was also Head of School for two years. He was also Chair of the Queensland Studies Authority which oversees curriculum and assessment in all Queensland schools and manages the secondary school system of teacher-moderated school-based assessment.

He was also a long term Executive member and two term President of the Australian Association for Research in Education (AARE). He is the author of over 100 articles in refereed journals and the author/editor of 11 books. His most recent books include: with Jenny Ozga, the RoutledgeFalmer Reader in Educational Policy and Politics (2006) and with Debra Hayes, Martin Mills and Pam Christie, Leading Learning: Making Hope Practical in Schools (Open University Press, 2003) and Teachers and Schooling Making a Difference (Allen and Unwin, 2006). He is also an editor of the journal, Discourse: Studies in the Cultural Politics of Education, published by Taylor & Francis and on the editorial boards of 5 other international journals.

Bob has been a consultant to governments in Australia and done commissioned research for them. The Queensland School Reform Longitudinal Study (QSRLS), which he co-directed, has been influential in policy and research terms within Australia and elsewhere. He also co-directed the Addressing the Educational Needs of Boys study for the federal government in Australia .
