Exploring Difference: “Decolonising Higher Education”
Thursday 28 October 2021, 4:00-6:00 p.m.
Embassy of Canada, Leipziger Platz 17, 10117 Berlin and online via stream
The thesis for this conference is that western knowledge and academia has contributed to and was an integral part of western imperialism and colonialism. Decolonisation of higher education institutions is key for the improvement of course curricula, teaching and learning, staff and student wellbeing.
How is this issue being tackled around the world? Five academic experts from different countries and world regions will be participating in a panel discussion, which will be moderated by Jan-Martin Wiarda, science/education journalist.
The conference is currently being planned as a hybrid event which will take place at the Canadian Embassy to Germany in Berlin. Speakers who cannot travel to Berlin will be connected online.
Due to the pandemic, the number of guests which may attend the conference at the Canadian Embassy in person is limited. Conference attendees who cannot be present on site will also be connected online.
