Birgit Klüsener

Birgit Klüsener is the Director of the Scholarships Department of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). She obtained her PhD in biology at the Ruhr-University Bochum in 1995. Before joining the DAAD in 2002 she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Ruhr-University Bochum and as a Feodor-Lynen Fellow at the University of California, San Diego. Since 2002 she held several positions at the DAAD: Head of Section „Postdoctoral Programmes“, Head of Section „Internationalisation of Research“, Head of Division „Internationalisation of Research“, Head of Division “General Policy Issues and Scholarship Accounting“ and since 2016 „Director Scholarships“. In all these positions she had a special thematic focus on doctoral and postdoctoral careers.
